ALCOVA is proud to announce its first “Hometown Hero” recipient. Meet Kimberly Howard from New River Valley Virginia!!! Presenting Kim with her plaque and a $500 check in honor of her service to our Nation is Brandon Nicely—the Manager of our Blacksburg branch.
Kim served two enlistments with the Army Reserves and Active Duty Army. Kim was a combat medic from 1986 to 1994 in the Army Reserves. Thirteen years later, Kim re-enlisted in the Army for Active duty. She was stationed at Ft. Knox and was assigned to the 233rd Transportation Company. She was deployed to Iraq in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in July of 2008 and returned home in June of 2009. Kim was medevac’d out of Iraq. As a result of missions carried out, she now has a titanium plate in her neck. Kim and her family returned home to Southwest Virginia after she was medically retired from the Army in 2010. Kim is married to an Air Force Veteran and they have 3 sons. Her oldest son served 5 years in the Marine Corps and was deployed to Afghanistan while Kim was in Iraq.
